Virgin Oak

TASTING NOTES

A wooden bowl contains ground spices and seeds, surrounded by star anise, peppercorns, and cinnamon sticks, scattered on a dark wooden surface.
NOSE
Packed full of wood spice, nutmeg and cinnamon.
Peppercorns scatter across a wooden cutting board, spilling onto a dark wooden table. Nearby lie a small onion, star anise, and a plaid cloth, creating a rustic culinary setting.
PALATE
These flavours carry over to the palate where the spice intensifies with freshly ground black pepper.
A large jar of honey sits on a wooden table surrounded by a honey dipper, cinnamon sticks, white flowers, and scattered dried herbs, creating a rustic and natural setting.
FINISH
As always with Deanston, its uniquely waxy character is present and coats the mouths beautifully with integrated notes of clove and heather honey.

Not many distillates stand up to virgin oak well

"Deanston does."

— Mb (5/5)

It's a nice, fresh dram, quite pleasant

"I'd normally rate it 3+/4, but it deserves 5 to counter the 1 star review below. It's a nice, fresh dram, quite pleasant for the price paid."

— Mat (5/5)

A fantastic product

"Loving every sip of this delicious Scotch"

5 stars

"Lovely stuff. Peppery spice from the virgin oak really complements the citrus and apple flavours from the distillate. And everything is pronounced at the high abv. There's no searching for 'notes'. A drop of water lessens the wood spice, and allows the honeyed character to come through more."

Hidden Costs and no customer service

"Bought online to send to a friend. Paid a large delivery fee (which I was happy to do as was going to Australia). Then got an email a few days later needing to pay the import taxes which from recollection were more than the delivery fee - this is not clear in the website. The delivery and import taxes were more than the bottle. Called to speak to someone, got nice person in the shop who said they would pass it to someone to call me back, and I’ve heard nothing."

Virgin Oak Distillery Edition - well worth the extra money.

"The Deanston Virgin Oak Distillery Edition (bottled at cask strength) is a great dram; it tastes like caramel ice cream - perfect for a summer dram or a winter dram, come to think of it. It is excellent value for a whisky of this quality, too."
