Experimental Whisky
Explore our experimental whiskies. Our signature waxy Highland spirit finished in unconventional casks, proving bold flavour comes from not playing it safe.
At Deanston, we’ve never been that interested in doing things the expected way.
We turned a cotton mill into a distillery, powered it by the River Teith, and got on with making whisky the way we thought it should be done - flavour first, no shortcuts.
TWO EXPERIMENTS. ONE MINDSET.
Our spirit’s naturally waxy - rich, weighty, and not easily knocked off course. Which means we can push it into unconventional casks without losing what makes it Deanston.
Because if the spirit’s solid, you don’t need to play it safe.

ORANGE WINE CASK FINISH
Inspired by sun-soaked days in southern Spain, this release takes our distinct Deanston spirit and gives it an unexpected change of scenery.
After 15 years in ex-bourbon casks, building that familiar honeyed sweetness, the whisky is finished in rare Vino de Naranja casks – a traditional Andalucían wine made by infusing matured wine with bitter orange peel and ageing it slowly over time.
The result is bright, layered and quietly complex. Citrus, honey, toasted nuts and sun-dried fruit – all wrapped in that unmistakable Deanston texture.
Different? Yes.
Still Deanston? Absolutely.

TEQUILA CASK FINISH
Taking our Highland single malt and finishing it in tequila casks wasn’t about novelty - it was about flavour. About seeing what happens when that waxy, honeyed spirit meets something vibrant, bright and a little unexpected.
The result is a whisky that feels alive.
Tropical fruit, toasted almonds, baked apple - with a citrus edge that lifts everything without overpowering it.
It’s bold, balanced, and proof that when you start with the right spirit, you don’t have to play it safe.
