We are Deanston Distillery. Politely challenging convention since 1996, preferring instead to do things our way - which just so happens to result in a rather exceptional Highland Single Malt with a signature waxy texture (yes, that's right, waxy).

From our not-so-humble beginnings in a Victorian cotton mill, to harnessing the River Teith's power, everything about Deanston is just a little... different. Not for the sake of it, but because we believe different makes better.

THE DEANSTON DIFFERENCE

We're not here to make average whisky - after all, who wants to be average? Instead, we craft Deanston Single Malt. Highland-born, unmistakably waxy and deliciously unlike anything else. Our secret? A fine-tuned balance of nature, location, and traditional, hands-on craftsmanship - with a healthy disregard for shortcuts.

We were also one of the first whisky distilleries in the world to produce an organic single malt whisky (no big deal). Certified organic in 2000 by the UK Organic Food Federation, no less - because we'd rather lead the way than follow the herd.

CRAFT WITH CHARCTER

The distinctive character of Deanston whisky isn't just about flavour. It's all about texture too. Some say sipping Deanston Highland Single Malt Whisky is like biting into a waxy apple. We think that's a pretty good analogy. It's a waxiness with a rich, full-bodied, juicy mouthfeel that coats the palate and lingers, a whisky that can't be recreated. And in case you were wondering, we don't put anything in our whisky that shouldn't be there. No added colour. No chill filtration. No nonsense. Just whisky, as it should be.

NO SHORTCUTS, JUST THE GOOD STUFF

If you're looking for quick, cheap, or easy, you're not looking for Deanston. Every drop of our single malt begins with the best ingredients we can get our hands on. Our water is drawn from the majestic and beautiful River Teith, which flows past Deanston Distillery. Our barley? Always 100% Scottish, sourced as close to home as possible, because supporting local isn't a slogan - it's our starting point. We even mill and hand-test it ourselves. Because if you want something done right...

TRADITION, THE DEANSTON WAY

Yes, at Deanston Distillery, we're traditional. Just... not stuck in tradition. We like to think that our whisky is delightfully analogue and made the long way round: open top mash tun, extra-long fermentation of up to 100 hours (far longer than most other distilleries, and copper stills with a touch of magic courtesy of our feints receiver. Everything is cut by hand, because there's still no machine that can out-think a whisky craftsman. Once ready, our spirit rests in hand-selected oak casks inside our old weaving sheds - because character takes time, and so do we.

NOT YOU 'RUN-OF-THE-MILL' DISTILLERY

Deanston is not your average run-of-the-mill Scottish whisky distillery. Most distilleries were built to be distilleries. Not Deanston. Born in an industrial, hydro-powered Victorian cotton mill in 1785 and repurposed in the 1960s with vision (and a bit of bravery).

For nearly two centuries, this place powered the local industry - and now, it powers something even more exciting. Whisky that honours its past without being trapped by it.

MEET OUR MAVERICK

It's the 1960s. The Beatles are everywhere, rules are bending, and a sharp-eyed whisky-broker named Brodie Hepburn sees more than just dust in a defunct cotton mill. He sees potential. With access to pristine Highland water, built-in hydro-power, and plenty of space for big ideas, he turned the past into the future - and a ground breaking Scotch whisky distillery was born.

We don't just talk sustainability - we bottle it. From day one, we've generated all our power from the River Teith. Clean, renewable, and remarkably effective. In fact, we generate so much electricity, we send the leftovers to the National Grid. You're welcome.
